About the blogger
May 2nd, 2008Erin was born and raised in Southern California. After highschool she went to community colleges (Glendale Community College and Pasadena City College) for two years before transferring to Harvey Mudd College. She graduated in 2003 from Harvey Mudd with a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Anthropology (crazy combo, I know!). After Harvey Mudd, Erin worked for two years in the Biomathematics Department at UCLA as a research assistant and lab manager for Dr. Sally Blower. Erin is currently attending University of Tennessee, Knoxville, pursuing her PhD in Mathematics with a concentration in Mathematical Ecology. Additionally, Erin is working with Profs Suzanne Lenhart and Lou Gross of the Mathematics and Ecology Departments on optimal control of species augmentation models.
In her free time (what free time? … she’s a grad student), Erin enjoys reading, knitting, working on her website and blog, listening to music, cooking, hiking, backpacking and camping, watching older TV shows like Little House on the Prairie and Murder She Wrote, and hanging out with her friends. Erin also has a crazy obsession with Hippos (ain’t they cute!), and has amassed a small collection of hippo artifacts over the years.
Is there anyone special in Erin’s life you ask? Of course there is! Erin has four adorable kitties, Martha, Twyla, Fleap (the only boy), and Piglet, and one adorable fiance, Bryan. Martha and Twyla are farm cats from the Davis Ranch in south-eastern Colorado, and dispite their best efforts to annoy Erin with maniacal high-jinks and shannagins, Erin still loves them dearly. Piglet is a dainty little black cat adopted from a friend that moved across the country and couldn’t take all her animals. Fleap is a burley but docile and shy, Maine-coonish cat that is still growing. Fleap is also Piglet’s son, but we adopted Fleap before Pig. Bryan is from that long, horizontal volunteer state, Tennessee. He and Erin have been dating since June-ish 2003, and are getting married on June 13, 2008.
This blog contains Erin’s rants, raves, and commentaries & updates on life for her family and friends.
